Land dredging begins for Dhidhdhoo airport development

Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer on Monday inaugurated a land dredging project undertaken by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) for the development of Dhidhdhoo Airport, housing and related services.
Dredging work commenced at a ceremony held in HA. Dhidhdhoo on Monday evening. The event marked the start of practical works under the land reclamation project.
The minister attended the ceremony alongside MACL’s chief executive officer and managing director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, deputy managing director Mujthaba Latheef, Dhidhdhoo constituency member of parliament Abdul Latheef Mohamed, Dhidhdhoo Island Council president Abdulla Rasheed, and residents of the island.
For the project, MACL has deployed a trailing suction hopper dredger named Leave Ericsson. The vessel has a dredging capacity of 46,000 cubic metres.
Under the Dhidhdhoo land reclamation project, MACL plans to dredge a total area of 111 hectares.
