Land reclamation works at HA. Dhidhdhoo have been completed within 50 days, authorities said on Monday.
The dredging work began on 4 January. President Mohamed Muizzu said in a post on X on Monday night that the works were completed earlier the same day.
According to the information released, a total of 549,240 cubic metres of sand was laid to reclaim 112 hectares of land. The reclaimed area is intended for the development of an airport, housing and related services.
The dredging was carried out by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). The company said the work was undertaken using a trailing suction hopper dredger.
MACL did not disclose the cost of the project.
