Immigration detains 7 expats for illegal employment
According to Immigration, a total of 66 foreign nationals were checked during the operation.
Seven expatriate workers have been arrested following an inspection carried out in Malé and Hulhumalé, Immigration authorities said on Thursday.
The inspection was conducted on Monday and Tuesday under the Migration Monitoring and Compliance Programme (MMCP).
According to Immigration, a total of 66 foreign nationals were checked during the operation.
Seven individuals found to be working without valid authorisation were arrested and are currently in Immigration custody.
Authorities said inspections of foreign residences have increased in recent months, with 8,600 individuals deported as of September.
Immigration also said it has collected biometric data, including facial images and fingerprints, of more than 100,000 foreign nationals living in the Maldives.
