Immigration detains 20 undocumented workers in Hulhumalé market
According to the authority, officers inspected 55 foreign workers during the operation.
Maldives Immigration has detained 20 foreign nationals found to be working without valid permits during an inspection at Rashu Market in Hulhumalé.
In a statement, Immigration said the operation was carried out on Tuesday as part of efforts to identify foreign nationals working illegally at the market.
According to the authority, officers inspected 55 foreign workers during the operation.
Of those inspected, 20 were found to be working without the required documentation and were taken into Immigration custody.
The operation forms part of the government's ongoing enforcement campaign against undocumented foreign workers.
Since the current administration took office, Immigration has increased inspections at locations where foreign nationals live and work. According to the authority, more than 8,600 undocumented expatriates had been deported as of September last year.
Immigration has also collected biometric data, including facial scans and fingerprints, from more than 100,000 foreign nationals living in the Maldives.
