Maldives tourism sees 30% y-o-y growth in Jan

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives increased by 30% at the end of last month compared to the same month last year.

According to the latest statistics released by the tourism ministry, a total of 178,159 tourists arrived in the Maldives this year as of Wednesday against 136,146 in the same period last year.

According to the ministry's data:

  • Currently, an average of 5,566 tourists arrive in the Maldives every day

  • Tourists spend 8.1 days on average in Maldives

  • The country has 1,218 operational tourist facilities; 59,840 beds

Top 10 source markets:

  • Russia – 24,154 (13.6% of total tourists)

  • India – 19,390 (10.9% of total tourists)

  • Italy – 17,159 (9.6% of total tourists)

  • UK - 15,367 (8.6% of total tourists)

  • Germany - 10,897 (6.1% of total tourists)

  • US - 7,984 (4.5% of total tourists)

  • France – 6,771 (3.8% of total tourists)

  • China – 5,985 (3.4% of total tourists)

  • Switzerland -3,491 (2% of total tourists)

  • Poland -3,358 (1.9% of total tourists;

According to the tourism ministry, 36 airlines currently operate international scheduled flights to the Maldives.
