SriLankan Airlines, the only international airline operating scheduled flights to Addu, has brought in a record number of goods to the southernmost city.
Mohamed Firaq, Managing Director of Inner Maldives, the local agent of SriLankan Airlines, said that Saturday was the day when Sri Lanka's flag carrier brought the highest number of goods to Gan and 4.4 tonnes of goods were brought.
"This is the first time that more than 4 tonnes of cargo has been brought from Colombo to Gan in a narrow body aircraft," Firaq said.
"SriLankan will continue to bring fresh supplies to the southern atolls."
Interestingly, the increase in the number of goods imported coincides with the fasting month. Generally, the demand for commodities increases with the fasting month.
Flights from Sri Lanka to Addu were increased late last year, with flights operating between Colombo and Gan three times a week.
