National carrier Maldivian on Sunday brought in an ATR-42 aircraft that will be added to its fleet.
The aircraft arrived on Sunday after having taken off from France, making it the third ATR aircraft to be brought by the airline.
The agreement was signed in January 2021 to replace the existing Dash-8 planes with three ATR planes.

The decision to convert the whole fleet at Maldivian into an ATR fleet was taken after the Dash-8s, which are currently in use, were too old and difficult to maintain.
Aishath Jennifer, deputy managing director of Maldivian, had earlier told Atoll Times that when the production of Dash-8 lines stopped, it was difficult to even get spare parts for repairs.

Maldivian has also announced to lease two A330-200 planes for long-haul journeys. The airline is also planning to bring in an A321 LR aircraft.
