Sri Lanka's flagship carrier SriLankan Airlines has decided to increase the frequency of flights operated to southernmost Addu City airport in Gan.
Mohamed Firaq, Managing Director of SriLankan Airlines’ local sales agent Inner Maldives, told Dhauru:
-
1-
SriLankan Airlines currently makes two weekly flights to Gan airport; on Tuesdays and Saturdays
-
2-
The airline has decided to make three flights a week starting from October
-
3-
The three weekly flights are scheduled for Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
Firaq said that the flight frequency was increased expecting an increase in passenger load, since they can garner more transit passengers for the route. He added that the target passenger markets are Korea and Japan.
"Even now the passenger occupancy for these flights are at 80%, and we expect to improve further with these additional flights," he said.
The direct flights between Gan and Colombo started on December 1, 2016. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, these flights had been discontinued, and started again in December.
