Construction and Infrastructure Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib has confirmed that challenges related to the road component of the Gan International Airport development project have been resolved and the construction will proceed in line with the original agreement.
The road construction is part of a broader airport expansion project valued at USD 29 million (approximately MVR 455 million), which was initiated in 2023 under the previous administration. Delays occurred due to land in the designated area not being vacated. At one point, the project was expected to continue without including the road construction.
Muththalib stated that Addu International Airport (AIA) has informed the ministry that the issue involving the labour quarter area of Equator Village has now been settled.
“As a result, the construction of the road will be carried out as part of the Gan International Airport development project, according to the agreement,” the minister said.
He added that the AIA management coordinated with the Ministry of Tourism and other relevant authorities to resolve the matter.
