31 students treated for food poisoning at Addu camp

Thirty-one students are receiving treatment for food poisoning following a cadet camp in Addu City.

The students, who are in Grade 7 and Grade 8, developed symptoms including vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal pain.

Addu Equatorial Hospital Senior Customer Relations Officer Abdullah Waheed told Dhauru that the students are receiving treatment at three health facilities across the province.

Waheed said all 31 students are being treated for food poisoning. He said most are under observation and have not been admitted to hospital.

“Most of the students are under observation at the moment. They have not been admitted. None of the students are in serious condition,” Waheed said.

He added that students who do not develop further health problems will be released.

The cause of the food poisoning has not yet been identified.
