Maldives' tourist arrivals cross 700,000 in 2023

This is an increase of 17.5% over the 604,730 tourists who visited the country in the same period last year.

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives has crossed 700,000 this year.

According to statistics released by the tourism ministry, 710,645 tourists arrived in the Maldives till Friday, which is an increase of 17.5% over the 604,730 tourists who visited the country in the same period last year.

According to statistics, 22,361 tourists arrived in the first five days of this month, which is 19.9% less than the 27,926 tourists who arrived in the same period last year. 

Currently, 5,685 tourists arrive in the Maldives every day. Tourists spend an average of 8.1 days in Maldives.

Top 5 source markets: 

  • Russia – 84,757 tourists (11.9% of total tourists)

  • India – 76,999 tourists (10.8% of total tourists)

  • UK – 67,086 tourists (9.4% of total tourists)

  • Italy – 57,102 tourists (8% of total tourists)

  • Germany – 52,186 tourists (7.3% of total tourists)

China has replaced the United States as the sixth biggest source market, with the US now ranked in the seventh position. 

France, Switzerland and South Korea also feature among the top 10 source markets.

According to the tourism ministry:

  • There are 1,235 operational tourist facilities in the country

  • It has 60,580 beds

  • 37 international airlines currently operate scheduled flights to the Maldives
