Tourist arrivals dip in May as off-season settles in

94,604 tourists have arrived in the Maldives so far this month which is 6,626 tourists less than the 100,230 that visited the Maldives in May 2022.

The number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives has dropped this month due to the off-season.

According to statistics released by the tourism ministry on Saturday, 94,604 tourists have arrived in the Maldives so far this month which is 6,626 tourists less than the 100,230 that visited in May 2022.

A total of 782,889 tourists have arrived in the Maldives so far this year, down 5.7% compared to last year.

  • Russia – 91,587 tourists (11.7% of total tourists)

  • India – 89,619 tourists (11.4% of total tourists)

  • UK – 71,359 tourists (9.1% of total tourists)

  • Italy – 59,593 tourists (7.6% of total tourists)

  • Germany – 57,274 tourists (7.3% of total tourists)

According to the tourism ministry:

  • Currently, there are 1,241 tourist facilities with 60,734 in the country

Usually, May-September is the off-season in the country. Compared to the number of tourists coming to the Maldives during the winter holidays, the number of tourists arriving in the Maldives during the summer period is low.
