The National Job Centre, run by the economic ministry, has announced that it is looking for a CEO to expand its services.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih established the National Job Center in February. Since then, it has been functioning under the economic ministry.
In a notification issued in the gazette seeking a CEO for the job centre set up to connect job seekers and employers, the ministry said it was looking for someone on a contract basis to run the job centre as per its strategic objectives.
According to the ministry:
-
The contract period is one year
-
On the basis of performance, the contract may be extended
-
Work expected to start next month
Some of the job centre's functions include:
-
Planning and implementing ways to connect employers with job seekers
-
Provide information about employment opportunities that people with special needs and those with social security can perform
-
To plan and guide working-age people to choose jobs they can do
In April, the World Bank announced a grant of USD 24 million (MVR 370.7 million) to the Maldives to set up two schemes to provide insurance to those who lose their jobs while working and to provide adequate employment opportunities for those seeking a job.
The job centre will be expanded and its branches will be set up in five parts of the country as part of the World Bank-funded project.
