2,500 daily domestic air travellers expected in Eid holidays
Domestic airlines have scheduled more than 50 domestic flights on Thursday alone.
On an average, 2,500 passengers are expected to travel from Velana International Airport (VIA) to domestic destinations every day during the upcoming Eid holidays, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) said on Thursday.
A nine-day holiday period will begin on Friday and last till July 1, as academic year ended on Thursday and Eid al-Adha falls on June 28. With the extended holiday period, many have already begun leaving the capital to islands across the country.
Hassan Areef, the General Manager, Corporate Communications at MACL, told Atoll Times on Thursday that a large number of people are expected to travel during the holidays.
"On an average, we expect 2,500 domestic passengers per day at VIA," Hassan said.
Hassan also urged passengers to reach the airport in advance as instructed by the respective airline.
Aviators Maldives, which brings news about the aviation sector, said domestic airlines have scheduled more than 50 domestic flights on Thursday alone.
National carrier Maldivian, along with private Manta Air and Villa Air operate domestic flights in Maldives.
