Gasim pledges to develop smart city in Fushidhiggaru lagoon

Jumhoory Party (JP) leader Gasim Ibrahim has made a provision in his manifesto to reclaim land from K. Fushidhiggaru lagoon and build a smart city.
The plan former President Abdulla Yameen had for his second term in office, to provide housing to Male residents is now in Gasim’s manifesto, designed as an eco-city as part of his environment and economic policies.
Regarding the eco-city being developed in Fushidhiggaru lagoon, about 9 km from Male, Gasim’s campaign team said that according to the research of scientists, Male faces several impacts of sea level rise and climate change. The 1,400-hectare Fushidhiggaru lagoon will be reclaimed with a breakwater built at least two metres above sea level to protect the island.

The eco-city will be built with the advice of technical experts and designed for the future
Over five years, 10,000 residential units of various levels will be built in the city, bringing the total to more than 30,000 housing units.

The city will have parks, recreation and business centres, shopping malls, convention centres and sports arenas
