Parliament receives 14 nominations for MIRA board positions

The positions are expected to become vacant with the expiration of the current members’ terms on 31 August.

Parliament has received a list of 14 candidates nominated to fill four vacant positions on the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) board. The positions are expected to become vacant with the expiration of the current members’ terms on 31 August.

A letter from the President containing the names of the candidates was read in Parliament on Monday. The nominations have been forwarded to the Economic Committee for review.

The four candidates placed at the top of the President’s list are:

  • Mohamed Imthinan Saudullah

  • Ismail Hamdoun

  • Aishath Shazra

  • Idham Hussain

Imthinan is the son of Progressive National Congress (PNC) MP Saudullah Hilmy, who represents the Thinadhoo North constituency.

Idham Hussain, who appears fourth on the list, is a family member of Mohamed Waheed, advisor to President Mohamed Muizzu. Idham previously served on the board of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) but was removed in June. He continues to serve as an advisor to the MMA.

Saudullah currently serves as the vice-chairperson of the Economic Committee of Parliament, which has been tasked with evaluating the nominations.

The other 10 individuals nominated are:

  • Umar Ahmed Hussain

  • Mohamed Ahmed

  • Mumthaz Abdul Rashid

  • Mariyam Juveyriya

  • Ahmed Maumoon

  • Ahmed Nazeef Mohamed

  • Husham Waheed

  • Mariyam Shaffau Shareef

  • Abdulla Mifraz Nizar

  • Ahmed Ali

The MIRA board consists of seven members. Upon the expiration of four members’ terms at the end of August, appointments to the board will proceed following parliamentary review and approval.
