MPL and the island council of Haa Alifu Uligan have signed an MoU to provide maritime services in Uligan.
The MOU was signed at a ceremony held at Uligan Council this Thursday morning by:
-
MPL CEO Mohamed Wajeeh
-
Uligan Council President Ahmed Muaz Mohamed
MPL issued a press release on the matter, saying:
-
The development of a yacht marina in Uligan will start this year
-
The work will be completed within six months
-
The concept of the yacht marina has already been done; investors are currently in discussions
Regarding this agreement, Wajeeh said that it was a presidential promise made by President Mohamed Muizzu to expand the maritime sector in Maldives.
Uligan has been visited by yachts since ancient times, unusually frequently for one island, he said, adding that the people and the council are concerned about the lack of adequate services available for the vessels.
“Therefore, we have tried to establish a yacht marina in Uligan for the first time in line with the President's vision,” he said.
Wajeeh said the construction of offices for the international banking service and maritime services in the atoll, Ihavandhippolhu, is also progressing very fast.
MPL will provide the office space required for Customs, MNDF, Immigration and Port Health to start the port services. The office space will be completed by the 10th of this month and the recruitment process will start then, he said.
