Maldives, Bahrain discuss economic, tourism investment
Maldives foreign minister Zameer's discussions with Bahraini ministers include investment opportunities in the Maldives.
Maldives foreign minister Moosa Zameer is currently on an official visit to Bahrain, where discussions on economic and tourism investments have taken centre stage.
During his four-day visit, Zameer held a meeting with Fatima bint Jaffar Al Sairafi, Bahrain’s Minister of Tourism and Chairperson of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, on Tuesday.
In a post on X, Zameer said the meeting focused on the resilience of the Maldives' tourism sector and explored potential collaboration between the two nations. The discussion also included investment opportunities in the Maldives, signalling a shared interest in strengthening tourism ties, he added.
In a separate meeting on Monday, Zameer met with Bahrain’s Minister of Finance and National Economy, Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.
The talks covered the Maldives' fiscal and development policies and examined the prospects for cooperation between the two countries.
Zameer provided an overview of the economic and investment opportunities available in the Maldives, aiming to attract Bahraini investments to support the country’s development objectives.
Meanwhile, Zameer on Monday handed over to Bahrain a letter from Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu to Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
Zameer's four-day visit follows an invitation from Bahrain's foreign minister Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.
The visit involves high-level discussions between Zameer and his Bahraini counterpart. The discussions focus on reviewing the longstanding bilateral relations between the Maldives and Bahrain, with a view to exploring opportunities for future cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
This year marks the 44th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
