Saudi's Red Sea project challenge for Maldives, minister says
Faisal said Maldives is a world leading tourism destination but there are challenges to remain so.
Tourism minister Ibrahim Faisal has said that the world is copying Maldives' tourism and one such project, Saudi Arabia's Red Sea Project, is a challenge for Maldives.
Saudi Arabia has launched a project that is closely related to Maldives' beautiful white sandy beaches, greenery and peaceful islands.
On the occasion of World Tourism Day, Faisal said Maldives is a world leading tourism destination but there are challenges to remain so.
Saudi Arabia's Red Sea project is also a challenge, Faisal said. However, the project is also being carried out with the participation of Maldivians, he said.
"It's a very similar project to Maldives. Maldivians are also involved in the project. They are working there. Some hotel managers in different jobs," Faisal said.
It also shows how much the Maldivians have achieved, he said.
"The extent to which Maldivian hospitality has developed. The development of Maldivian people," Faisal said.
The government is working to achieve progress in all aspects, he said. They include:
-
Increase occupancy
-
Increase the proportion of tourists spending on Maldives
-
Increase the number of days tourists stay in Maldives
So far this year, 1.5 million tourists have visited Maldives. The government aims for two million tourists. Faisal said the target will be achieved by December.
The board members of the Saudi project include former President Mohmmed Waheed.
