Vessels currently operating near the market area will be relocated to a designated section of the North Harbour, where water and electricity services will be provided, according to Maldives Ports Limited (MPL).
MPL said vessels carrying goods and passengers that had been operating near the market were temporarily moved to the MMA area and near the Hulhumalé petrol jetty. These include vessels that usually stop near the A Zone or along the Boduthakurufaanu Magu canal in the North Harbour.
According to MPL, development work at the newly designated area has now been completed. Once vessels are relocated there, they will be provided with water and electricity services, which were previously unavailable at the location.
MPL said that the resumption of services at the North Harbour included the replacement of damaged lighting with new installations.
The port operator said these changes will allow vessels using the harbour to remain at the site under improved operating conditions.
MPL added that vessels will be relocated to the B Zone, on the west side of the North Harbour, within the coming week.
