President invites India's Modi to pay state visit to Maldives

President Muizzu said the two countries will celebrate their 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.

President Mohamed Muizzu on Monday invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to pay a state visit to Maldives.

Muizzu, who is currently on a state visit to India at the invitation of the Indian president, made the announcement in a joint statement with Modi.

Speaking on the long-standing strong ties between the two countries, President Muizzu said the two countries will celebrate their 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year. He said Modi has been invited to visit Maldives to celebrate the occasion.

Modi last visited Maldives in June 2019 during the government of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Earlier, Modi visited Maldives in November 2018 for the swearing-in ceremony of President Solih.
