Opposition wins by-elections for Magoodhoo, Kalaidhoo
Youth minister Ahmed Mahloof said it was a "day of failure for MDP".
Opposition PPM won the by-election to the vacant female-reserved seat in N. Magoodhoo island council and the vacant seat in Women's Development Committee (WDC) of L. Kalaidhoo.
Voting for the two by-elections was held from 8am to 4pm on Saturday.
Both the by-elections were won by the party with a narrow margin of votes:

Aiminath Yumna Abdul-Ghani (PPM) - 124 votes

Fareedha Adnaan (MDP) – 115 votes

Huwailath Raheema (MDP) – 192 votes
Youth minister Ahmed Mahloof said it was a "day of failure for MDP". He also congratulated Yumna, who won the Magoodhoo council by-election with a margin of nine votes, and Safia, who won the Kalaidhoo WDC seat by a margin of four votes.
Mahloof also thanked MDP candidates and teams for their hard work.
