The Nautilus Foundation opens applications for scholarships

The Nautilus Foundation has officially opened the application process for its annual scholarships, with a deadline set for next month.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Maagiri Hotel on Thursday, where the foundation outlined its commitment to fostering talent across various professional fields in the Maldives.

The Nautilus Foundation will offer a total of four to six scholarships for the upcoming academic year. Recipients will benefit from a comprehensive package that covers tuition fees, round-trip tickets, medical insurance, visas, and stipends.

However, the foundation emphasises that all scholarship recipients will be required to serve the Maldives for a minimum of three years after completing their studies.

The scholarships are designed to build local expertise in critical areas, thereby enhancing the workforce in the Maldives. In addition to the scholarships, the foundation will also provide job opportunities to graduates who wish to start their careers upon completion of their studies.

Next year's scholarships will be awarded in four specific areas:

Medical Specialisation

  • This scholarship targets Maldivian doctors seeking to specialise in the health sector. 

  • Scholarships will be awarded exclusively in fields where there is a demand for specialists. 

  • Recipients must commit to working for at least one year in a health service provider outside the Malé area after completing their training. 

  • Education opportunities will be available in countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Nepal, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, or Sri Lanka.

Field of Journalism

  • This scholarship offers Maldivians the chance to pursue an undergraduate education in journalism. 

  • The Nautilus Foundation aims to cultivate skilled journalists who can contribute to the media landscape in the Maldives. 

  • Educational opportunities will be available in Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Nepal, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, or Sri Lanka.

Aircraft Engineering

  • Aimed at increasing Maldivian representation in the aviation sector.

  • This scholarship covers a two-year Aircraft Maintenance Licence Programme (E- ASIA Part 66) conducted by UNI KL, Malaysia.

  • Applicants are required to submit a placement letter confirming their acceptance into the program.

Commercial Cookery

  • This scholarship focuses on the Certificate Level 3 in Commercial Cookery, aiming to produce well-trained professionals for the tourism sector in the Maldives. 

  • It is offered through the William Commercial English Institute, with courses conducted by The Colombo Academy of Hospitality Management in Sri Lanka. 

  • Applicants must also provide a placement letter confirming their selection for the course.
