Parliament approves cabinet reshuffle

During the vote in the parliament, all three ministerial appointments were approved by 86 votes, with no votes in opposition.

Parliament on Tuesday approved the appointment of three new ministers to the cabinet following a reshuffle by the president.

The changes mark the first cabinet reshuffle of the current government, which were forwarded to the parliament for approval after the resignation of then finance minister Dr Mohamed Shafeeq.

The changes made by Pesident Mohamed Muizzu include:

  • Finance minister: Moosa Zameer, then foreign minister

  • Foreign minister: Dr Abdullah Khaleel, then the health minister

  • Health minister: Abdulla Nazim, then minister at the President’s Office

The government responsibility committee of parliament reviewed the nominations and submitted its report to the parliament on Tuesday. The committee unanimously confirmed that all three nominees met the eligibility criteria.
