Maldives cabinet gives green light to join OACPS Samoa Agreement

The Cabinet has recommended that Maldives join the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) Samoa Agreement.
The Cabinet meeting held on Sunday discussed the paper submitted by the Foreign Ministry.
The President's Office said on Monday that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to seek Parliament's approval to join the Samoa Agreement in accordance with the recommendation of the Cabinet following Sunday's meeting.
The President’s Office said that by joining the agreement and becoming a full member of the OACPS, Maldives will be able to access the opportunities offered by the European Union in various fields. It will open more doors to get a better price for various types of seafood exported from Maldives, the office said.
The Samoa Agreement outlines the legal framework underpinning six core areas of the EU/OACPS relationship for the next 20 years. The six main areas are:
