3 apply for Chief Justice post after Muthasim's retirement

Three individuals have submitted applications for the post of Chief Justice following the retirement of Muthasim Adnan last week.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) opened nominations for the position last week. The deadline for submission closed at 12 noon Tuesday.
According to available information, the candidates are:

Abdul Ghani Mohamed, former Justice of the Supreme Court

Shujau Usman, former Chief Justice of the High Court

Abdulla Mohamed, current Family Court Judge and former Chief Judge of the Criminal Court
Abdul Ghani Mohamed was removed from the judiciary during the previous administration. His removal was initiated by the JSC and endorsed by Parliament. He ceased to serve as a judge in December 2019.
Shujau Usman resigned from his judicial position in August 2020 after the JSC at the time decided to dismiss him and forwarded the decision to Parliament.
Following Muthasim Adnan’s retirement, the administrative responsibilities of the Supreme Court have been temporarily assigned to Justice Abdulla Hameed.
In addition to Justice Hameed, the sitting Justices of the Supreme Court are Aisha Shujoon Mohamed, Ali Rasheed Hussain, Dr Mohamed Ibrahim, Hussain Rasheed, and Mohamed Saleem.
The JSC is expected to review the applications before making a nomination for appointment.
