Chinese experts in Maldives for road feasibility study
Construction minister Muththalib stated that the government intends to commence the project next year, with a goal to complete it in four years.
A team of Chinese experts has arrived in the Maldives to carry out a feasibility study for road construction in Male and Villimale.
The Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure announced the arrival in a post on X, noting that the technical team was sent by the Chinese government.
The experts met with ministry officials on Monday, and the study is scheduled to continue until November 21. The process will involve meetings, consultations with relevant stakeholders, and site surveys to collect necessary data.
According to the ministry, the project aims to prepare the plan and design for the road construction initiative in Male and Villimale, which is supported by Chinese aid.
President Mohamed Muizzu previously discussed the project during his visit to China in January, highlighting that a significant portion of the $130 million allocated will be directed toward the Male road project.
