Housing ministry on Friday attributed its failure to attend a hearing by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICOM) to an employee’s negligence, resulting in a fine for the ministry.
The ICOM imposed a fine of MVR 350 on the housing ministry for not appearing at a hearing scheduled to address a case.
In a press release, the ministry stated that it prioritises responding to information requests within the timelines outlined in the Right to Information Act.
“The fine imposed by the Information Commissioner’s Office on November 7, 2024, was due to the negligence of an employee of the ministry, and action will be taken against the individual in accordance with Civil Service Rules,” the statement read.
The ministry also noted that measures are being implemented to strengthen procedures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
