55 expats detained for protesting over unpaid salaries

Maldives Immigration detained 55 expatriate workers who protested near the presidential residence, Muleeage, in Male, over non-payment of salaries by a private contractor.
The workers assembled in the area around 11 am, seeking payment of their wages. Law enforcement authorities responded to the gathering, which included individuals from India and Bangladesh.

"The individuals have now been taken into immigration custody," a police statement said.
Authorities are yet to comment on any measures to address the workers' grievances regarding unpaid salaries.
