Housing Development Corporation (HDC) on Sunday terminated the employment of 15 staff members in connection with irregularities in the allocation of land and flats in Hulhumale.

The case, which involves the alleged allocation of land to Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, brother of former HDC Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, became public when documents were shared on Wednesday by an account on X managed by Hassan Kurusee.

HDC Chairman Ahmed Nasif confirmed the dismissals on Sunday, stating that the decision was made following an internal investigation into the matter.

“Restrictions will now be implemented on sharing location information and transferring location data outside the organisation. Unusual information will need to be checked within 48 hours, and the integrity of security measures will also be reviewed,” he said.

The case is under investigation by both the police and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), acting on orders from Prosecutor General Abbas Shareef. The 15 individuals dismissed on Sunday include senior employees who were previously suspended during the investigation.

The former Managing Director of HDC, Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, resigned on Saturday to facilitate the inquiry into fraudulent transactions related to land and flat allocations. Mauroof Jameel has been appointed as the new Managing Director.

The investigations into the land and flat allocation practices in Hulhumale are ongoing, with both the police and the ACC working to identify and address any irregularities.
