President's Office, president's WhatsApp received Zuhoor's letter
President Muizzu has categorically denied receiving any such communication.
The President's Office received a letter from former HDC Chairman Ahmed Zuhoor and President Mohamed Muizzu's WhatsApp account received a copy, which includes details of many allegations against former HDC Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, reliable sources have confirmed.
The case recently came to light after Fazul allegedly facilitated the allocation of a Hulhumale land plot under the scheme to his brother, who was not on the eligibility list. This revelation led to Fazul’s suspension and his subsequent resignation on Wednesday amid public scrutiny.
The situation has become a source of public criticism for the government, with claims that President Muizzu had received Zuhoor's letter five months ago but failed to act. However, President Muizzu on Sunday categorically denied receiving any such communication.
“I have not received the letter you are asking about. If I had received it, I would have acted or ensured it was investigated,” the president stated.
Despite the denial, reliable sources familiar with the matter have contradicted the president’s claims, alleging that the letter was sent directly to a WhatsApp number used by the president.
According to the records obtained by Atoll Times, Zuhoor delivered a physical copy of the letter to the President’s Office on July 1. Documentation shows:
-
The letter was handed over at 1:23 pm and received by a staff member named Aminath Nafsha.
-
Zuhoor also retained a copy of the document, which corroborates the timeline of the submission.
One source stated, “The letter was sent to the president’s WhatsApp by Zuhoor himself, in addition to being officially submitted to the President’s Office.”
The president has reaffirmed his commitment to fighting corruption, emphasising that his administration will not tolerate any unlawful activities.
“I want to say that I will not hesitate to stop any act of corruption or illegal activity. To this day, I have asked authorities to take swift action when I receive credible information,” President Muizzu said.
In his resignation letter, Fazul denied the allegations, stating that his resignation was intended to ensure the investigation proceeded without interference.
