President Mohamed Muizzu has said that a government cannot ensure justice if corruption is allowed to spread within the system.

Speaking at a Republic Day function held at the Social Centre on Tuesday, President Muizzu said he is committed to doing everything possible to eliminate corruption from the state administration.

“If the system of government is allowed to fall into corruption again, there will be no just governance. Corruption is not limited to this country; it is a problem everywhere,” he said.

The President emphasised that accountability must be strengthened and conditions that enable corruption must be removed. He added that one of the main efforts to achieve this would begin with the digitalisation project scheduled to be launched next year.

According to the President:

  • Corruption occurs among those with the opportunity to participate in administrative processes.

  • It is most often committed by lower to mid-level employees.

  • Employees who have direct access to public services are more likely to exploit those opportunities.

  • Digitalising government services will reduce opportunities for such misconduct.

  • The government aims to make public services faster and free from corruption.

President Muizzu said the complete eradication of corruption in the state system can only be achieved if all citizens cooperate and support the effort.
