Passports of several former officials from the housing ministry, including former State Minister Akram Kamaluddin, were seized on Friday as part of an investigation led by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The individuals whose passports have been seized include:

  • Akram Kamaluddin, Former State Minister

  • Mohamed Arif, Former Senior Executive Director

  • Lirgam Waheed, Former Senior Executive Director

  • Ahmed Vishan Naseem, Former and Current Director General

In addition, the passports of 20 individuals, including Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed and his brother, MWSC Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, were also seized. Both Fazul and Fazeel are currently suspended.

The investigation centres on allegations of attempting to obtain plots of land through the submission of fraudulent documents under the Binveriya scheme. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdulla Shareef, six individuals submitted documents for the plots under the Binveriya scheme.

Details shared during a press conference include:

  • Two of the three plots have been obtained by others under the Binveriya scheme.

  • One plot remains unallocated.

  • The six applicants were declared ineligible for the scheme, with some not having submitted forms at all.

  • Others had already received flats under the scheme.

Shareef stated that HDC had contacted the housing ministry to verify the authenticity of documents submitted for land acquisition. Some of the documents, now under investigation, were allegedly issued by officials from the previous government after complaints were raised.

Police have obtained physical and digital records related to the case and are continuing their inquiries into the matter. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
