The roof work on the Izzuddin Jetty in Male is currently underway following the completion of its overhead structure, the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) announced on Tuesday.

The jetty, a prominent point of entry to the capital city used daily by hundreds of people, was closed for repairs in May.

An official from MTCC stated that the overhead structure has been completed and work on the ceiling and roof is now in progress.

The Izzuddin Jetty, built during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen, underwent a significant redesign and reconstruction in 2015 to mark the Golden Jubilee of the Maldives’ independence. Further repairs were carried out in 2017.

The current renovation involves replacing the original three-story sail-shaped roof with a design featuring three standard roofs. The construction ministry has indicated that the repair costs for the current phase amount to MVR 11.7 million.

A notice placed at the jetty site outlines the ongoing work and highlights the planned updates to its structure. The jetty remains closed to the public until the renovations are completed.
