The ruling PNC Chairman Abdul Raheem Abdulla said on Wednesday that the government would address corruption cases based on actions rather than individuals.

Speaking during a programme on PSM, parliament speaker Abdul Raheem emphasised that the government is committed to investigating corruption cases and ensuring appropriate actions are taken.

“For the past 40 years, we have reached this point without addressing such cases. This government will examine actions and take necessary steps,” he said.

Abdul Raheem explained that investigations would focus on identifying those responsible, ensuring due process is followed, and taking corrective measures once evidence of fraud is confirmed.

“We will conduct investigations systematically and determine accountability. After completing the procedures, it will be clear if fraud occurred and who was responsible,” he added.

He clarified that the government does not intend to interfere with the functions of parliament. He further noted that any errors within the government could be investigated.

“The difference now is that President Mohamed Muizzu's administration does not interfere with parliament's mandate,” he said.

The comments follow recent allegations of fraudulent activities involving the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

The HDC board had suspended all its members to facilitate investigations into the allegations. The suspensions have since been lifted.

Meanwhile, passports of two individuals were seized in connection with the allocation of land in Hulhumale to Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, the brother of Ibrahim Fazul Rashid, the former Managing Director of HDC.
