
Only 3 political parties have over 10,000 members
The Political Parties Act mandates all registered parties to publicly disclose their membership numbers every six months.
The Elections Commission (EC) has published updated membership figures for political parties in the Maldives, showing that only three parties have more than 10,000 registered members.
According to the data released by the EC on Wednesday, the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) has the highest number of registered members, totalling 68,665. The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) follows with 43,765 members, and the Jumhooree Party has 14,456 members.

The Elections Commission also announced that registration to and removal from the political party register can now be completed through its online portal. The same portal can be used to obtain certificates confirming non-membership in a political party.
