EC suspends admission to parties amid forged forms
MDP Vaikaradhoo MP Hussain Ziyad (Fitte) was reportedly introduced to the PNC without his consent, prompting the EC to reject the membership form.
Elections Commission (EC) on Wednesday announced the temporary suspension of the process for admitting new members to political parties.
This decision follows a series of complaints about unauthorized registrations, including instances where individuals were placed on political party registers without their knowledge. In one such case, MDP Vaikaradhoo MP Hussain Ziyad was introduced to the PNC without his consent, prompting the EC to reject the membership form.
In an official announcement, the Commission stated that its portal, currently used for submitting membership forms, will cease to accept new registrations as of the 30th of this month.
The suspension will remain in place until February 15, after which the system will be reopened with enhanced safeguards to ensure the legitimacy of new party memberships.
During this period, the EC assured the public that membership applications could still be processed through the main portal, though additional screening of forms will be conducted to prevent further issues.
The Elections Commission emphasized that this suspension is necessary to ensure a more transparent and secure process for party admissions.
