President Mohamed Muizzu said on Friday that the government’s priority in its digitalisation efforts will be the education and health sectors.
Speaking to Public Service Media (PSM) following his visit to Estonia last week, the president emphasised the importance of these two sectors in the government's digitalisation agenda.
“The two most important sectors to focus on for digitalisation are education and health,” said President Muizzu.
He also noted discussions held with Estonian ministers overseeing these areas.
The president outlined plans to digitise all public services within the year, with the education and health sectors at the forefront of these efforts.
“In the next three to four years, we hope to transform these services significantly,” he said.
President Muizzu expressed optimism that the Maldives could achieve fully digitalised services with the collective effort of its citizens during the remainder of his term.
He highlighted the successful outcomes of his visit to Estonia, where three agreements related to digitisation were signed. The agreements aim to support the Maldives' transition to a digital economy.
The president further noted the government's target to make the digital economy contribute 15% to the country’s GDP over the next five years. He underscored the importance of leveraging technologies such as artificial intelligence to advance the Maldives' development goals.
“During this visit, we gained valuable insights into the strategies and plans implemented in Estonia, which will guide our efforts,” he added.
President Muizzu described the collaboration with Estonia as a significant step toward achieving the government's digitalisation goals.
