President Mohamed Muizzu has submitted revised nominations to parliament for the two vacant seats in the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The updated submission replaces one of the names previously prioritised by the president.
During the first extraordinary parliamentary sitting held on Thursday, President Muizzu presented his nominations for the vacant positions. However, in the second extraordinary session on Monday, a revised letter was read, reflecting the change in one of the president’s initial preferences.
The ACC vacancies arose following the resignations of Vice-President Abdul Salam and member Thoha Mohamed in November. Their resignations came as parliament was preparing to conduct a no-confidence vote against them.
In his second letter to parliament, President Muizzu submitted the following names for consideration:
-
Ahmed Nasheed
-
Abdulla Nashid
The president’s previous nominations included Asiya Azeema, but this preference has now been revised.
The nominations will be reviewed by parliament’s independent institutions committee, which will oversee the appointment process.
The Anti-Corruption Commission currently comprises the following members:
-
Adam Shamil (President)
-
Shiyama Mohamed
-
Shazna Hashim
With the submission of revised nominations, the parliament is expected to proceed with the appointment process for the two remaining seats.
