Government aims to complete the installation of air conditioning powered by renewable energy in all school classrooms across the Maldives by September, according to President Mohamed Muizzu.

During his ongoing visit to Raa Atoll, the president highlighted the importance of providing air-conditioned classrooms, particularly in regions experiencing higher temperatures.

"Priority will be given to cooling classrooms used for teaching, rather than other spaces in schools. This will be achieved by installing air conditioning systems powered by solar energy," the president said in his remarks in R. Hulhuffaaru.

The initiative, which began last year as part of a two-year programme, also includes the launch of a solar panel project to provide renewable energy for the air conditioning systems. Speaking during a visit to Dh. Meedhoo in March, President Muizzu emphasised the government’s commitment to integrating renewable energy solutions in schools.

"The project is already underway, and the necessary requirements have been arranged. We are targeting the completion of classroom air-conditioning in all schools by September, with the full implementation across the country expected to take six to eight months," he said.

President Muizzu also addressed additional concerns raised by islanders, including space constraints at Hudson School, assuring that these issues would be resolved. Other requests from residents of the islands he visited will also be considered, he added.
