Majeedhiyya marks 99 years, sets school model plan
Majeedhiyya, the first boys’ school in Maldives, held an assembly attended by education officials and students.
Majeedhiyya School marked its 99th anniversary on Sunday, with Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu stating that the institution should serve as a model for other schools in Maldives.
Majeedhiyya, the first boys’ school in Maldives, held an assembly attended by education officials and students Sunday. The minister addressed the gathering and outlined expectations for the school’s role in the education system.
Dr Shafeeu said the school has reached its current position through the work of many contributors. He noted that changes in technology require further work to improve education.
He said Majeedhiyya should support the formal education system and pass it to future generations. He added that the school should introduce new approaches and provide a reference point for other schools.
“I have no doubt that Majeedhiyya will be such a school,” he said.
Plans are in place to mark the 100th anniversary in 2027 with the construction of a structure named ‘Sahthavi Binaa’. The building is under construction on the west side of the school, at the current parking area.
The minister said construction has begun and is expected to be completed before next year.
