Gh. Thinadhoo council on Sunday announced new regulations aimed at creating an environment conducive to worship during the upcoming month of Ramadan.

The announcement, published in the government gazette, outline measures to ensure that religious observances are prioritised throughout the month.

The council stated that all sports and entertainment activities are prohibited both during the day and night throughout Ramadan. The primary objective of the regulation is to encourage and facilitate worship as much as possible during this period.

Key aspects of the announcement include:

  • Educational institutions, government offices, private organisations, businesses, clubs, associations, and sports teams are required to organise their operations in a manner that supports the spiritual purpose of Ramadan.

  • Work duties must be scheduled to avoid conflicts with prayer times, Taraweeh prayers, and fasting requirements.

  • All forms of sports activities are banned during the day and night throughout Ramadan.

  • Non-essential official activities by organisations are not permitted. Exceptions are made for Ramadan-related and religious events. These activities must also be organised to avoid disrupting worship.

The council emphasised that it will not support individuals or groups who fail to comply with these regulations. Necessary actions will be taken against those who deliberately violate the rules.
