Mohamed Nihad, who was previously suspended from his position as Minister of State for Tourism, has been appointed as Minister of State for Finance and Planning.

Nihad joined the People’s National Congress (PNC) following the change of government, having remained with the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) until the conclusion of two rounds of the most recent presidential election.

On December 23, Nihad made remarks at the PNC headquarters, alleging that the MDP was orchestrating an attack on tourist establishments. He was suspended from his position the following day.

Sources indicate that Nihad has been attending to his duties at the Ministry of Finance and Planning since last Thursday.

Nihad, who previously served as a member of parliament, was among 13 MPs who joined the PNC after the change of government. He did not contest the subsequent parliamentary elections and later assumed a political position in the administration.
