
PNC secures majority in council by-elections
According to the Elections Commission, 6,275 people voted in the by-elections, representing 55.4% of eligible voters.
The ruling Progressive National Congress (PNC) won the majority of seats in the island council and women’s development committee by-elections held across several islands on Saturday.
Two island council by-elections and nine women’s development committee by-elections took place.
In the island council elections:

Ibrahim Mohamed, an independent candidate, won the HDh. Makunudhoo council seat.

Athifa Moosa, the PNC candidate, won the N. Landhoo council seat.
In the women’s development committee elections, the PNC secured seven out of the nine contested seats:
