Govt to distribute canned tuna to Male from Feb 20

President Mohamed Muizzu has confirmed that each household will receive one case of canned tuna as a special Ramadan gift this year.

The government has announced that the distribution of canned tuna cases to every household in Male region will begin on February 20 and continue until February 28.

This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to support citizens during the holy month of Ramadan.

President Mohamed Muizzu has confirmed that each household will receive one case of canned tuna as a special Ramadan gift this year. Each case contains 48 cans of 180g tuna chunks in oil.

The distribution process is being carried out in collaboration with:

  • State Trading Organisation (STO)

  • Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO)

  • Male City Council

  • Island councils

STO is responsible for distributing the canned tuna cases in the Male area. According to STO, all preparations for the distribution have been completed, and the cases will be available at designated centres from February 20 to 28.

The distribution centres in Male will operate during the following hours:

  • 2:30-6 pm

  • 8:30 am – 11 pm

Five centres will be set up across the Malé region for households to collect their tuna cases:

  • Male: Male City Council Public Services Department and MIFCO office compound

  • Vilimale’: Vilimale council office

  • Hulhumale Phase 1: Umar Zahir Building

  • Hulhumale Phase 2: Hiya Flat Tower 10 Youth Centre

To collect the tuna case, the recipient must:

  • Be a Maldivian citizen

  • Provide the household’s water meter or electricity metre number

  • Present a valid ID card and phone number

STO has been sending canned tuna cases to the islands since February 5. In the islands, the island councils will manage the distribution to ensure every household receives their share.
