The government has decided to distribute tuna can cases as Ramadan gifts next year, continuing the practice from last Ramadan.
Last Ramadan, Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) distributed canned tuna cases to each household.
Local Government Minister Adam Shareef told Atoll Times on Wednesday that President Mohamed Muizzu has decided to distribute tuna cans to every household during Ramadan next year.
The minister did not provide further details on the distribution.
According to the calendar, next year’s Ramadan is expected to begin in February.
It is reported that the government paid about MVR 79 million to MIFCO for distributing tuna cases to more than 100,000 households last Ramadan. However, the government has not officially released the details.
