Electricity and water bills will not exceed MVR 400 during the upcoming month of Ramadan, President Mohamed Muizzu announced on Friday.
The government has provided reductions on utility charges in previous Ramadan periods to address the rise in household electricity and water consumption during the fasting month. In recent years, bills were capped to ensure they did not exceed charges from other months.
Speaking at a rally held by the ruling PNC at Artificial Beach to mark two years of the administration, President Muizzu said all domestic-rate electricity and water bills for the coming Ramadan would be capped.
“Every bill charged at the domestic rate next Ramadan will have a maximum charge of MVR 400. The remaining amount will be discounted by 50 per cent,” he said.
