Male City Council on Sunday announced the temporary closure of Rasfannu Beach due to sediment accumulation in the area.
The decision was made to ensure public safety and to facilitate the necessary restoration work.
According to the council, sewage sediment has accumulated over a 500-hectare area, creating muddy puddles up to one foot deep. The presence of such conditions poses a potential hazard to beachgoers, prompting action from the authorities.
To address the issue, sand-laying operations are scheduled to commence at 9am on Monday. The council has assured the public that the restoration process will be carried out efficiently to restore the beach to its normal state as soon as possible. Until the work is completed, the beach will remain closed to the public.
Residents and visitors are urged to comply with the temporary closure and avoid the affected area for their safety. The council has not yet provided an estimated timeline for the completion of the work but will provide updates as progress is made.
