CCTV shows missing Maldivian in Malaysia safe, family says
Despite this development, Usaid has not yet reunited with his family. His father expressed hope that he will be found soon.
A Maldivian student missing in Malaysia, Usaid Ibrahim Afeef, has been seen on CCTV footage and appears to be safe, his family confirmed Tuesday. However, they have yet to make direct contact with him.
Usaid, who resides in Malaysia, has been missing since Sunday. His father, Ibrahim Afeef, shared an update on Facebook, stating that both the Maldivian High Commission in Malaysia and local police are searching for him.
According to Afeef’s post, security footage and witness reports have helped trace some of Usaid’s movements:
-
On Sunday around 4 pm, Usaid went to the Maldivian High Commission in Malaysia.
-
Since it was a holiday, the office was closed, and he could not meet anyone. CCTV footage shows him staying outside the premises for about an hour.
-
When he left, he inadvertently left behind his wallet and student card.
-
When the High Commission reopened on Monday, staff reviewed the CCTV footage and confirmed that Usaid appeared safe.
-
At 11 am on Monday, the High Commission returned Usaid’s wallet and student card to his family.
-
Usaid was last seen leaving Sunway Geo after 3:15 pm on Sunday. His family reported him missing to the police at 10 pm that night.
Despite this development, Usaid has not yet reunited with his family. His father expressed hope that he will be found soon.
"Hopefully, Usaid will meet us soon. The cameras show that he is in good condition. He is wearing a red T-shirt," Afeef wrote on Facebook.
Afeef also extended his gratitude to everyone assisting in the search efforts and urged anyone with information about Usaid’s whereabouts to come forward.
