A new 1,000 kW generator is scheduled to arrive in Addu on Thursday to address ongoing power outages affecting connected islands.
Intermittent power disruptions have occurred due to failures in the gensets supplying electricity to the area. Although a new genset was installed last month, power outages have continued.
Fenaka Corporation announced on social media on Tuesday that a 1,000 kW engine was loaded onto a vessel from Malayalam for transport to Addu early yesterday.
According to Fenaka:

The vessel is expected to dock in Addu early Thursday.

A vessel carrying an 1,800 kW engine from India is also sailing on schedule.
The new generator was sent to Addu following an emergency motion moved in parliament by opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) parliamentary group leader and Hithadhoo South MP Ibrahim Nazil.
Last month, a 1.8 MW generator was transported to Addu to address the power issue. In his motion, Nazil stated that the generator's capacity was insufficient.
